Megafauna mural in the town of Buchan in East Gippsland, Victoria on Gunaikurnai Land. Melbourne Museum will soon have fossil replicas and other interpretation displayed in the building’s windows.
The scene is set during Springtime in the Pleistocene, in Limestone Rocky Outcrop Shrubland, perhaps colder and dryer than the current climate.
The animals included have been chosen from significant fossil discoveries in the caves of the area and threatened living local species: Palorchestes azael†, Brush-tailed rock wallaby, Thylacoleo carnifex†, Platypus, Yellow-tailed black Cockatoo, Megalibgwilia owenii†, Southern emu wren, Simosthenurus occidentalis†, Superb-fairy wren.
Some flora Inclusions are Hairy bursaria, Austral bracken fern, Kangaroo grass, Blanket fern, Manna gum, Limestone Pomaderris, Buchan Blue Wattle (Acacia caerulescens).
